Top Funds

July’s Best Of The Lot In 2023 cover story was clearly the winner with lots of data on mutual fund categories, scheme comparisons and their rankings. It was interesting to see how the performance of systematic investment plans (SIPs) of equity mutual fund schemes have the potential to win the hearts of investors, attracting even those who traditionally invested in fixed deposits to play it safe. In fact, many have switched to SIPs recently. I could tell from my experience, as I was one of those who switched to SIPs last year. The article has enriched my knowledge of mutual funds which will help me take the right decision.

Right Product

We focus too much on capital appreciation and completely forget about liquidity and income generation. Right Product Fit Key to Success (May 2023 issue), has totally drawn me in. We risk losing opportunities if we have inadequate knowledge of a particular product before buying it. It could be a major blow for a retired person like me to invest without understanding the investment product. As highlighted, self-knowledge and consciousness are important and information about the right product, regular portfolio review, and diversification is critical. The article helped me understand these aspects.

Debt Recovery

The special story, Did You Sign Up For That Recovery Call? in the July 2023 issue, has only dealt with private banks and non-banking financial companies, which operate mainly through hired recovery agents, whereas the public sector banks (PSBs), have a mechanism goverened by enacted Acts. All recoveries are governed by the Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Securities Interest (SARFAESAI) Act, 2002, enforced by the debt recovery tribunal and other government modes. Some PSBs outsource detective agencies or investigators to conduct spot verifications of the missing defaulters, and hidden assets.

Credit Score

I often get confused when selecting a credit card out of so many in the market, each claiming to offer exclusive benefits. I could relate to the topic Credit Score Tales of Hits ‘N’ Misses (July 2023 issue), as I once paid the minimum amount on my credit card outstanding to avoid late fees without understanding that interest would still be levied on the due amount. Consequently, my credit score got affected. So, I decided to keep only one card for easy management. The article was informative, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
