The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) started National Cinema Day in 2022 to mark cinemas reopening following the COVID-19 epidemic. The project sought to provide big discounts to film aficionados, while also supporting cinema owners who had experienced major losses during the lockdowns. The yearly event has become a popular tradition allowing movie lovers to watch films at a discounted price and supporting the theater industry's rehabilitation and expansion.
