In three years since its launch, the eShram portal has achieved the milestone of over 300 million registrations on its online portal. The national portal has seen rapid and widespread adoption among unorganised workers, the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) stated in an official release.
The Ministry further noted that it is coordinating with different Ministries and Departments to develop eShram as a “One-Stop-Solution” portal for unorganised workers. Announcing this during her Budget 2024-15 speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that “a comprehensive integration of eShram portal with other portals will facilitate the development of such One-Stop-Solution.”
This integration is supposed to create awareness of the schemes meant for unorganised workers while ensuring saturation of the schemes through the identification of left-out potential beneficiaries.
What is eSharam?
This is the first-ever national database of unorganised workers including migrant workers, construction workers, gig and platform workers, etc. The database of workers includes details such as their name, occupation, address, educational qualification, skill types family details, etc.
The data is seeded with the worker’s Aadhaar card. The record helps with understanding their employability and extending the benefits of the social security schemes to them. It is the first-ever national database of unorganised workers.
eSharam Integration With Other Government Schemes
As part of the ‘One Stop Solution’ project, MoLE is planning to integrate some major government schemes for the benefit of the unorganised worker. These include Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor’s Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM-SVANidhi), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G), Ration Card scheme etc.
Moreover, MoLE is also focussing on a two-way integration of Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) and eShram to help registrants access the services being offered by these portals seamlessly.
The government is aiming to board all unorganised workers, including health workers like ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and those working in villages/ Gram Panchayats/ Sabhas/ Parishads, building and construction projects including MGNREGA workers and other similar workers on the portal. The same has been taken up with all relevant ministries, the release states.
