In Outlook Money’s “Wealth Wizards” series, Outlook Money Editor Nidhi Sinha spoke to Mark Mobius, founder of Mobius Capital Partners and a renowned emerging markets expert. Mobius shared his perspective on global investing, and emerging markets which he believes offers tremendous potential for development.
According to Mobius, being fully aware of the risks and rewards is essential when investing in emerging markets especially in countries, such as India, China, and Brazil. He said that while many investors tend to avoid these markets due to perceived risks, they are key to achieving diversification and long-term wealth creation.
To reduce risk, he also spoke about the importance of distributing investments across multiple countries and sectors.
Mobius said if these markets were handled with patience and discipline, the rewards could be substantial despite their potential for volatility. He also emphasised the importance of strong economic policies, growing consumer markets, and stable political environments as key factors when evaluating markets.
After more than 40 years of investing, Mobius described how his approach to investing has changed. Early in his career, he concentrated on developed markets, but eventually, he became more focused on the growth and innovation emerging in the developing economies. His current investment strategy involves extensive on-the-ground research to understand the opportunities and risks in the markets he invests in.
Mobius also discussed a successful business endeavour that he did early in the Indian technology sector, where he made impressive profits. He says that keeping an eye on the big picture and identifying new trends before they become well-known are essential to effective investing.
