In September 2024, the mutual fund industry saw a net outflow of Rs 71,000 crore, mainly due to Rs 1.13 lakh crore worth of debt mutual fund outflows. As of September 2024, the total assets under management (AUM) of the Mutual Fund Industry stand at Rs 67,09,259.24 crores. This reflects an increase from the AUM of Rs 66,70,305.14 crores in August 2024.

The number of mutual Fund Folios is at an all-time high at 21,05,15,684 by the month's end, AMFI monthly data showed.

Equity Mutual Fund Trends

Inflows into equity mutual funds showed a small dip in September (Rs 34,419 crore), down from August's Rs 38,239 crore. It was the 43rd month of positive equity inflows, starting from March 2021. The number of new SIPs registered in September 2024 stood at 66,38,857.

Sectoral or thematic funds saw a huge decrease in inflows to Rs 13,254 crore from 18,117 crore. Large and Midcap funds and flexicap funds had the next highest inflows at Rs 3,598 core and  Rs 3,214 crore respectively. Small-cap funds received Rs 1,529 crore against Rs 3,209 crore in August.

Equity categories that saw outflows were Equity Linked Savings Scheme (ELSS) funds and focused funds, which experienced outflows of Rs 348 crore and Rs 272 crore, respectively.

Debt & Hybrid Mutual Funds

In August, debt mutual funds saw a net outflow of Rs 1.13 lakh core. Liquid funds saw the highest outflow, at Rs 72,644 crore, followed by money market funds, at Rs 23,420 crore.

The total inflows into hybrid fund categories decreased to Rs 4,901 crore in September almost half of what it received in August.
