It is never too late to start investing in mutual funds and adopting the SIP route is the most convenient way to achieve long term wealth creation. However, instead of looking for the best equity diversified fund, you should decide on an investment time frame and assess your risk tolerance. Based on these two factors you can arrive at an asset allocation (mix of equity and fixed income investments) that suits you the most.
As you come across as a first time investor, you will be better off by first getting your KYC done and then invest in a balanced fund, because these are suitable for them. You could invest in funds like ICICI Pru Balanced or ICICI Pru Balanced Advantage. Both have a long track record and performance history to start an SIP in. Lastly, invest regularly and review the progress made by your investments at least once a year to rebalance your holdings and make changes to selected funds if necessary.
