My office was broken into some days ago and some equipment was stolen. However, my insurer declined the claim stating it was not a burglary. What can I do?

The incident is unfortunate and we understand your concern over the loss. The reason why the claim was denied could be due to the difference between theft and burglary as interpreted by insurers and as mentioned in the policy document. In the standard burglary and housebreaking policy the insurer covers theft only in case of a forcible entry into the premise. The claim also looks for a violent entry into the premises for the claim to be acknowledged and settled. The insurance also settles in case of a hold-up under this policy. If your office was not broken into, it could be a reason for not acknowledging the burglary. Simple theft or stealing is not covered under this policy and the essential difference between theft and the burglary is the application of force. If that is missing, the claim does not stand.
