With the rains in full flow, I am worried about dengue. Is there a dengue-specific insurance cover? Can I cover my entire family under it?

Your concerns are understandable and yes, there are policies offered these days that specifically cover only dengue. Such plans are offered to both individuals and as family floater plans. Do remember, this is not a substitute to your standard health insurance and is a supplement to it. As the cover is only related to dengue, the sum assured on the policy is limited to Rs 1 lakh in most cases. This may sometimes be not sufficient for treatment of dengue, as there are instances when dengue has resulted in prolonged hospitalisation and associated costs. Some dengue-specific polices also offer fixed, defined benefits when dengue is diagnosed and few other conditions mentioned in the policy are met with. At best, this policy should be taken to compliment an existing health insurance policy.
