My bag, which had my bank chequebooks, has been stolen. How do I get a fresh set of chequebooks issued?

It is unfortunate that you lost your bag with important possessions. You should first register a complaint with the police, reporting the loss of bag and its contents in the area where you lost the bag. Next, write a letter to the branch manager of the home branch of your bank requesting him to issue a fresh set of chequebooks. Also, request the bank to block the unused cheques of the lost chequebooks. Attach a copy of the police complaint along with the letter to the branch manager. The bank will typically take a week from the date you submit the letter with the complaint copy to send you a fresh chequebook, some banks may provide you with a ready to use chequebook, which may not be personalised till such time you get your regular chequebook.
