I changed my insurance agent this year and he issued a cover note but did not give me the insurance policy right away. How valid is the cover note given by him?

Normally you receive a cover note for an insurance policy at the time of renewal because the insurer and the agent cannot furnish a policy document. This is a common occurrence in case of a motor insurance policy. The cover note acts like a temporary insurance document establishing proof of insurance and is normally valid for 60 days from its date of issue, within which you should receive the original policy document. In case you do not receive the policy document within 60 days, do escalate the matter directly with the insurer.
