Do health policies only cover treatment undergone in a hospital?
Kritika Murli, Chennai
The very purpose of a health policy is to cover treatment in a hospital or a nursing home. However, health policies do have provisions whereby domiciliary hospitalisation, that is, treatment at home can be covered. For a claim to be processed under domiciliary hospitalisation, two conditions have to be met. One, the treatment should continue for at least three days. Two, the medical condition would, in the normal course of things, require treatment in a hospital or nursing home but is instead treated at home either because the patient is in no condition to be moved to a hospital or nursing home or because the hospital or nursing home does not have enough beds.
