Do health insurance policies cover plastic surgery?

Pratibha Pillai, Kochi

Health insurance policies do not cover expenses arising out of elective, cosmetic, or plastic surgery done under normal circumstances. This means that if a person gets a plastic surgery done to improve his facial structure, the expenses incurred will not be covered. There is only one condition under which plastic surgery expenses are covered—when the surgery is done to correct a distortion due to an injury caused by an accident. But do check the exclusion list, because some policies do not include plastic surgery even under such circumstances.
