I got my learner’s driving license recently. If I drive my father’s car and meet with an accident, will any damages to the car be covered under a comprehensive motor insurance policy?

Under the Motor Vehicles Act, a person holding a learner’s license can drive a vehicle on two conditions. One, the vehicle must have a ‘L’ sign both on the front and rear screens of the vehicle. Second, a permanent license-holder must accompany the learner’s license holder in the car when the learner is driving. If these conditions are met, the insurer will entertain the claim, if any, under the policy. Therefore, while driving your father’s car you must ensure that ‘L’ plates are fixed on the front and rear screens of the car and somebody holding a permanent license accompanies you.
