Yes, travel insurance policies can be extended while you are travelling abroad and staying longer than your anticipated travel. However, the insurer may seek for a medical report at the time of requisitioning the extension. Moreover, extensions on travel insurance policies are always subject to terms and conditions stipulated by the insurer in the insurance policy, which means there is also a chance that you may not get the extension. In case you decide to shorten your stay before the policy expires, you can get reimbursement of the premium amount for the unused policy duration. For instance, if you purchase a policy with an initial duration of six months but decide to come back in four months, you can get the premium for the unused policy duration reimbursed.
