My aged parents moved to live with me five years ago. They had a locker in Delhi where they lived before that, but the locker has not been used by them for seven years now. I don’t see them making a trip to Delhi at all. How can I access their locker?

This is a tricky situation and you should check if the locker and bank account has nominations in place. Look up the RBI guidelines on nomination for locker, or speak to your local bank to get an idea on what these are, because you should work on all the necessary paperwork before you land up in Delhi to seek access to the locker and the bank account as well. If you are not the nominee on the account, but are your parents’ only legal heir, you should get a deed made that mentions you as the legal heir. These days, banks have central operation; it will be a good idea to visit the bank in which your parents have this account in Chandigarh to start the paperwork process to access the account and the locker, even before you head out to Delhi.
