In the past three months, BFI has already allocated a substantial amount through strategic MoU’s with 6 elite research institutes and 5 incubators, setting in motion its plans to revolutionise biomedical research and innovation in India. The esteemed Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore joins the prestigious list of collaborative partners, including IIT Bombay and IIT Kanpur, among others, further enriching the network of top-tier institutions driving transformative change in the healthcare landscape.
This pioneering initiative not only sets unprecedented records but also symbolises a unified effort among leading research institutes and incubators nationwide. The commitment to fostering groundbreaking healthcare solutions underscores BFI’s relentless dedication to advancing accessible, affordable, and cutting-edge medical innovations for communities in India and beyond.
Within just three months of its inception, the BFI-Biome Program has already pledged a substantial amount in financial support, cementing partnerships with renowned research institutes such as Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani, IIT Bombay, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Foundation for Neglected Disease Research (FNDR), and Centres For Research and Education in Science & Technology (TCG-CREST), Under the BFI-Biome Program, BFI has also forged partnerships with eminent incubators such as Venture Center, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Platforms (C-CAMP), Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre - IIT Kanpur, AIC-CCMB, and IKP Knowledge Park. These collaborations exemplify BFI’s commitment to catalyzing groundbreaking advancements in biomedical research across India.
Mr Sandeep Nailwal, Founder of BFI, expressed his vision for the BFI-BIOME Program, stating, “The importance of collaborative efforts in accelerating research was underscored during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal extends beyond providing financial support; we aim to bridge critical gaps in India's healthcare infrastructure through innovation and strategic partnerships. As part of this, in the near future, we aim to pledge USD 200 Million towards building the overall biomedical research capabilities in the country, out of which approximately USD 100 Million will be dedicated towards setting up a first of its kind Biomedical Research Institute in the country, that we aim to set up in the next 5 years. While the increased allocation of funds is an important component to address emerging challenges and drive progress in crucial fields, we also aspire to build a platform to facilitate efficient stakeholder engagement”.
Blockchain for Impact (BFI) launched the ambitious BFI-BIOME Virtual Network Program in Dec 2023 with a vision to support innovative projects in areas such as translational research for various diseases, disease biomarker discovery, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), novel diagnostics, and devices. Since then, BFI-BIOME has fostered collaboration among leading researchers, technologists, and innovators, including the first collaboration with IISc Bangalore. Through these strategic collaborations, BFI aims to catalyze the next generation of interventions for improved healthcare outcomes.
Dr. Gaurav Singh, CEO of BFI, expressed gratitude for the partnerships with leading research institutes, stating, “We are honoured to have the support of esteemed institutions as we work towards a common goal of strengthening India's healthcare ecosystem. Through the BIOME network, we aim to accelerate biomedical research, foster innovation, and build a resilient healthcare ecosystem . These partnerships mark the initial steps towards realizing this vision. And the response to this first of its kind collective effort that brings together the best minds in the country to work together, is truly a huge motivation and a testament to the belief in our vision.”
In addition to collaborative research efforts, BFI has also launched Medical-INI grant program to advance medical research, improve patient care and address health care challenges. Moving forward aims to engage with healthcare companies to enrich the biomedical research environment in India.
