The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced to make online updation of Aadhar documents free for the next three months until June 14, 2023.
However, the service will be free only on the myAadhaar portal. Physical Aadhaar centers will continue to charge Rs 50, as was the case before, UIDAI said in a statement.
Standard fees will still be applicable to modify information, such as name, date of birth, address, etc. This decision will help individuals who have not updated their Aadhaar documents for a long time.
UIDAI has urged citizens to update their identity and address proof documents, particularly if their Aadhaar cards were issued more than 10 years ago and has not been updated.
To update or modify information such as name, date of birth, address, etc., cardholders can do it online or visit the nearest Aadhaar center, according to the statement.
How To Avail Of This Free Service: To avail of the free service, individuals can log in to https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/portal using their Aadhaar number. They will receive a One Time Password (OTP) on their registered mobile number. Moreover, users can select the 'Document Update' option, verify their information, and upload documents to revalidate their details.
Steps to update Aadhaar address online:
Step 1: Access the Aadhaar self-service update portal and select the 'proceed to update address' option.
Step 2: Login by using your Aadhaar number, registered mobile number, and OTP.
Step 3: If you have a valid address proof, click on the 'Proceed to Update Address' option.
Step 4: Input your 12-digit Aadhaar number and click on 'Send OTP.'
Step 5: Enter the OTP and log in to your Aadhaar account.
Step 6: Select the 'update address via address proof' option and input the new address. Alternatively, you could choose the 'Update Address vis Secret Code' option.
Step 7: Input the residential address as stated in the 'Proof of Address.'
Step 8: Next, choose the type of document that will be submitted as proof of address.
Step 9: Upload a scanned copy of the address proof and select the 'Submit' button.
Step 10: The Aadhaar update request will be accepted, and a 14-digit Update Request Number (URN) will be generated.
The status of the Aadhaar address update can be checked using the URN, which is Update Request Number. Once updated, you can download the updated version and obtain a printed Aadhaar card.
