Atishi Marlena Singh, the lone woman minister in the Delhi Cabinet, was on September 17, 2024 nominated by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators for the Delhi chief minister’s post. A Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Kalkaji, she holds the maximum portfolios in the AAP government. She will take over the position of Delhi chief minister from party chief Arvind Kejriwal with just months left for the Delhi Assembly election slated early in 2025. 

According to the election affidavit shared on the MyNeta website, Atishi’s net worth is estimated to be over Rs 1.41 crore, with nil liabilities. According to the 2020 Delhi Assembly election affidavit she had filed with the Election Commission of India (ECI), she has about Rs 30,000 in cash, while the total amount of her bank deposits and fixed deposits (FDs) come to Rs 1.22 crore.

Notably, despite being a millionaire, Atishi has stayed away from equities and fixed-income instruments to generate returns on the considerable capital she holds. However, she has taken a life insurance policy and a health insurance policy worth Rs 5 lakh in her name. 

Atishi, who is also a founding member of AAP, has not invested in real estate or holds any houses or land.  

Atishi’s investment habits are similar to those of previous chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. According to his 2020 election affidavit, he held Rs 15.31 lakh in SBI Mutual Fund and banks deposits of Rs 2.26 crore. He also held real estate in the form of a flat in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, worth Rs 1.40 crore. According to his previous election affidavit, he also had inherited ancestral property in Haryana worth Rs 37 lakh.

Atishi was appointed as the minister of education, public works department (PWD), culture, and tourism in the Delhi government in 2023. From 2015 to 2018, she also served as an advisor to Manish Sisodia, the previous education minister in the Delhi government. She is also an Oxford University alumnus and a Rhodes Scholar.
