SBI General Insurance has partnered with IntrCity RailYatri, a multi-modal intercity mobility platform, to offer domestic travel insurance.

The insurance would be offered to bus travelers opting to commute through IntrCity RailYatri, it would be a complimentary travel cover worth Rs 5 lakh which will come along with the travel ticket.

“Today, the impact of digitisation has reached every aspect and every segment of the economy. This has also seen penetration in domestic travel bookings. It is important to secure any kind of journey, and with insurance being plugged-in at the point of travel booking, it ensures a complete and safe travel package. At SBI General, we believe this partnership will also help increase the insurance penetration in India and ensure a safe travel experience for customers,” said Amar Joshi, Chief Business Officer, SBI General Insurance.

Under the travel insurance, SBI General Insurance would provide a wide variety of coverage including accidental death, permanent total disability, and medical evacuation.

“The safety of our passengers is and always will be of the utmost importance to us. SBI General’s Insurance solution matches our commitment of providing a safe, convenient, and reliable journey experience and it complements our other initiatives to create a comprehensive solution," said Manish Rathi, CEO, IntrCity RailYatri.

"Under this partnership, we have waived off travel premium charges to the traveler, which means every IntrCity SmartBus traveler gets complimentary travel insurance cover with the bus ticket."

Road accidents in India account for around 150,000 deaths every year in India with bus accidents accounting for 30,746 accidents and 10,507 deaths in 2018, according to the data provided by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
