According to the Union health ministry, India is the fastest country in the world to administer 17 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses. China took 119 days to hit the same milestone, while the United States took 115 days. The vaccination campaign in India began on January 16, with healthcare workers being inoculated, and frontline workers being vaccinated on February 2. It was then opened to a variety of age groups. The total number of Covid-19 vaccine doses given out in the country has surpassed the 17 crore mark. According to the preliminary study, a total of 17,01,76,603 vaccine doses were administered across 24,70,799 sessions as of 7 a.m.

There are 95,47,102 healthcare workers (HCWs) who took the first dose and 64,71,385 HCWs who took the second dose, 1,39,72,612 FLWs who took the first dose, and 77,55,283 FLWs who took the second dose, and 20,31,854 beneficiaries in the 18-44 age group who took the first dose. Furthermore, the first and second doses were given to 5,51,79,217 and 65,61,851 beneficiaries aged 45 to 60 years, respectively, while the first and second doses were given to 5,36,74,082 and 1,49,83,217 beneficiaries over 60 years.

Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Bihar, and Andhra Pradesh account for 66.79 percent of the country's total doses. According to the ministry, 2,46,269 beneficiaries between the ages of 18 and 44 received their first dose of Covid vaccine in less than 24 hours, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 20,31,854 across 30 states and UTs.

In just 24 hours, more than 6.8 lakh vaccine doses were sent out. On day 114 of the vaccination campaign (May 9), 6,89,652 vaccine doses had been administered. 4,05,325 beneficiaries were vaccinated for the first time in 5,685 sessions, and 2,84,327 beneficiaries were vaccinated for the second time in 2,84,327 sessions, the ministry said.
