Aadhaar Made Mandatory For PMVVY Scheme

New Delhi, December 27: In a recent notification the finance ministry has made Aadhaar linking mandatory for the subscribers of the Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana (PMVVY).

PMVVY, a pension scheme for the senior citizens, is being implemented through Life Insurance Corporation. The scheme was announced in 2017-18 and 2018-19 Union Budgets.

The notification stated an individual eligible for receiving the benefit under the scheme shall hereby be required to furnish proof of possession of Aadhaar number (the unique 12-digit biometric identity number) or undergo Aadhaar authentication.

Any individual who wants to avail benefit of the scheme must have Aadhaar number or should apply for Aadhaar number before enrolling for the scheme.

Once the enrolment for Aadhaar number is done, to avail the benefit, subscribers will be required to submit – (a) Aadhaar enrolment Identification Slip and (b) any of the following documents –

  1. Bank passbook or post office passbook with photo,
  2. Voter Identity Card,
  3. Ration Card,
  4. PAN card,
  5. Driving licence,
  6. Passport,
  7. MGNREGA Card
  8. Kisan Photo Passbook
  9. Certificate of identity having photo of such person issued by a gazetted person on an official letterhead
  10. Any other document as specified by the department

If the Aadhaar authentication fails where biometric or Aadhaar one-time password or time-based OTP authentication is not possible, benefit under the scheme may be given on the basis of physical Aadhaar letter whose authenticity may be verified through the quick response (QR) code printed on the Aadhaar letter.
