Senior citizens who buy new homes should choose the interiors as per their needs. Even in older homes, interiors should be changed as per needs. Having senior citizen-friendly interiors can make living more joyful and safer.
1. Avoid Edged Furniture And Prefer Non-Slippery Flooring- Keeping furniture edged can prevent senior citizens from getting injuries. Similarly, non-slippery floor surface should be kept in areas like kitchen and bathroom etc.
Natural light and fresh air can help senior citizens remain healthy and fresh. So, preferring a home with multiple balconies, windows and an apartment which gets sufficient sunlight for long hours and in all seasons is a good choice.
Every area of the house should be easily accessible to the senior citizens residing in it. Floor levels should be consistent throughout the home, kitchen counters should be constructed to meet the seniors' needs etc. Additionally, supports should be installed at suitable locations on the walls to aid whenever required.
Other requirements include having a ramp for the wheelchair that can help with easy movement. The doors should be wider enough for the movement of wheelchair. A security camera, remote-controlled door locking and unlocking and emergency alert system in the home can make life more comfortable for senior citizens.
