The government launched the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana in 2015 under its “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” mission.
This scheme aims to provide financial security to the girl child.
Parents and guardians can open a Sukanya Samriddhi account for a child below 10 years old.
The minimum investment period is 15 years, and maturity is 21 years.
The scheme allows for partial withdrawals for education and marriage when the girl turns 18.
The minimum investment in SSY is Rs 250 in a financial year, and the maximum is Rs 1.5 lakh.
The scheme offers an interest rate of 8.2 per cent, effective January 1, 2024.
