Mother Dairy’s Milk Price Hike: How Will It Affect Your Monthly Budget?

After Amul, Mother Dairy has increased the price of fresh pouch milk by Rs 2 per litre in the Delhi-NCR region citing a rise in input cost over the last 15 months. The hike in prices of all the variants of milk is applicable starting today (Monday, June 3) in the Delhi-NCR market as well as other markets where it is located. Earlier on June 2, the Gujarat Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) also notified a hike in the price of Amul milk by Rs 2 per litre, effective starting today (Monday, June 3).

Daily cost of consuming 2 pouches (1 litre each) of cow milk:

Daily cost = 2 pouches per day, (Rs 58/litre for 1 litre/pouch) = Rs 116 per day

You can calculate the monthly cost by multiplying the daily cost by the number of days in a month:

Monthly cost (For 30 days) = Rs 116/day * 30 days = Rs 3,480

Monthly cost (For 31 days) = Rs 116/day * 31 days = Rs 3,596

Therefore, your monthly budget for consuming 2 pouches (1 litre each) of milk daily for Rs 58 per litre would be Rs 3,480 (for 30 days) and Rs 3,596 (for 31 days).

Mother Dairy in a statement said that ‘it is increasing its liquid milk prices by Rs 2 per litre across all operating markets from June 03, 2024 onwards.” It further noted that the hike in consumer price is mainly to compensate the producers for increased production costs, which, it says, have been rising for over one year.

Mother Dairy had last revised its milk prices in February last year. It currently sells 35 lakh litres of fresh milk per day in the Delhi-NCR region. "Despite paying higher prices towards milk procurement in the last few months, the consumer prices were kept intact,” it said.

The company further highlighted that the heat stress across India has been ‘unprecedented’ and it may further impact milk production.
