My computer was covered under my householder policy. Now I have bought a new laptop, which cost about Rs 50,000. Will I have to get it covered separately or my earlier cover will do? Will the insurer increase my premium amount?
You will have to inform your insurers for the inclusion of laptop in your householder’s policy

Your existing insurance policy will not automatically cover your newly acquired laptop. You will have to inform your insurers for the inclusion of laptop in your householder’s policy. Insurers will charge extra premium depending on the section under which the insurance is sought. If you insure your laptop under TV/Computer section, the loss to laptop will be covered only while the same is on the premises. Therefore, it will be better if you include it under the section pertaining to ‘ALL RISKS’. Alternatively you can secure an independent policy for the laptop which will provide full coverage irrespective of the territorial limits.
