Diabetes is common these days and you can get a life insurance policy while being diabetic. When applying for a life insurance policy, do state that you are diabetic in the proposal form. Based on your age and the quantum of insurance you are seeking, the insurer may want you to take a medical exam. During this exam, you will be asked questions about your family history, medical history, lifestyle, and smoking and alcohol usage.
A life insurer is concerned that you being diabetic should be taking proper precautions to keep it under control. A medical history of regular physician checkups is important for them to feel comfortable insuring you. Normal premiums are charged of those whose diabetes is under control; however, if it is not under control, the insurer may charge you a higher premium. In case of health insurance too, you will need to undergo medical tests arranged by the health insurer on the basis of which a policy will be issued with exclusion for diabetes or including it. Most insurers do not offer cover to individual with type 1 diabetes.
