The Government of India has announced on the official portal of the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana (PMSYM), that beneficiaries of PMSYM can now revive their account if contributions have lapsed up to 3 years. This message is shown as a notice on PMSYM's official portal https://maandhan.in/ as a new feature. To revive the account beneficiaries should pay a lapsed sum along with interest and penalty through this same portal. They can also do so at the nearest Common service centre

What Is Mandhaan Yojana?

Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana is a pension program designed as an old age protection and social security programme for unorganised workers. Maandhan Yojana is a voluntary and contributory pension scheme catering to workers aged between 18 to 40 years with a monthly income of up to Rs. 15,000.

Under the Maandhan Yojana, if an unorganised worker subscribes and regularly contributes until he or she reaches the age of 60 years, then they will receive a minimum monthly pension of Rs. 3000. In the event of their death, their spouse will receive a monthly family pension up to 50 per cent of the pension. Contributions can be made on a monthly basis, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly basis through auto-debit from your bank account.

Eligibility

The scheme is available to unorganized workers aged between 18 and 40 years engaged in casual jobs, such as home-based workers, street vendors, head loaders, brick kilns, agricultural workers, construction workers etc earning less than Rs. 15,000 per month.

How To Apply

Enrollment will be based on self-certification and providing your Aadhaar number. With an Aadhar card, savings bank passbook and a Self-Certified form along with a consent form for auto-debit facility the customer should visit the Common service centre nearby. The first contribution is to be paid here in cash at Common Service Centre where the enrollment is done and subsequently, your contributions will be auto debited from your account. 

Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana

Another variant of the scheme is Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana catering to small and marginal farmers aged 18 to 40 years. They should only have landholdings of up to 2 hectares and their names should appear in the land records of states and UTs as of August 1, 2019.

Similar to PMSYM, Eligible farmers will receive a minimum pension of Rs. 3000 per month after reaching the age of 60, and the spouse is entitled to 50 per cent of the pension after the farmer's death.
