Hurun Rich List: 90s’ Bollywood Sweetheart, Juhi Chawla, Is Also India’s Richest Actress

Indian movie stars earned over Rs 1 crore from each film in the 1990s. The top performers also became the leading faces of commercial endorsements, which poured in more money and filled their coffers. Many have also started their own enterprises and made more money. So, it’s no surprise that India’s richest actress is also among the world’s top 10 richest actresses. Interestingly, this Indian actress has not produced a commercial hit film for more than a decade. 

According to the 2024 Hurun Rich List, Juhi Chawla is India’s wealthiest actress. In fact, her wealth is second only to that of her friend and business partner, Shah Rukh Khan, with a net worth of Rs 4,600 crore ($580 million), far ahead of her equally talented peers and contemporaries. 
 

Her Nearest Competitors 

The combined net worth of the five richest Indian actresses after Juhi is still far behind her. With a net worth of about $100 million (approximately Rs 850 crore), Aishwarya Rai Bachchan ranks second after Juhi, followed by Priyanka Chopra with a net worth of Rs 650 crore, propelled by her brands, a film production firm, and her Hollywood films. The current top stars, Alia Bhatt and Deepika Padukone, who own large businesses, are also in the top five. 

How Juhi Chawla Earned Millions 
 
Juhi Chawla’s income comes from movies, although only in part. Despite being one of the biggest performers in the 1990s, with blockbuster hits like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Yes Boss, Salaam-e-Ishq, and Chalk-n-Duster, Juhi’s latest blockbuster movie came in 2009 (Luck By Chance). Most of her fortune comes from her business ventures, mainly the Red Chillies Group. She’s one of the company’s founders, a co-producer of films, and a co-owner of cricket teams like the Indian Premiere League’s (IPL) Kolkata Knight Riders. She also owns expensive real estate and invests in various enterprises alongside her businessman husband, Jay Mehta.
