Both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress have made a long list of promises to Haryana voters if they were voted to power.

BJP, which has ruled the state for 10 years and fought the election for a third term, in its “Sankalp Patra” promised monthly assistance of Rs 2,100 to every woman, creating two lakh government jobs, setting up of 10 industrial towns, guaranteed government jobs for “Agniveers”, and full scholarships to scheduled caste (SC) and other backward class (OBC) students at government medical and engineering colleges. The 72-page document, titled “Non-Stop Haryana Ka Sankalp Patra”, also promises to procure 24 crops at a minimum support price (MSP) and provide cooking gas cylinders to each BPL family at a subsidised rate of Rs 500. The party has also pledged to create jobs for five lakh youth and pay them monthly stipends under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme. In addition, the saffron party has promised a lot of other things, from infrastructure and housing development to constructing recreational parks and education centres.
On the other hand, the Congress manifesto has promised to set up a special task force to eradicate drug abuse in the state. To lure the women voters, Congress, too, has pledged Rs 2,000 monthly to every woman and subsidised LPG cylinders for Rs 500 as financial support. Congress has also promised to restore the old pension scheme for government employees and provide pensions for old age, disability, and widows. It promises pensions of up to Rs 6,000 monthly.
Similarly, it has vowed to create 2 lakh government jobs to fight unemployment. While launching the manifesto, Congress president Millikarjun Kharge said, “There are 30-35 lakh vacancies available which the government is not filling due to the lack of fund for the employee’s salary, which we will fulfil.”
The party has also promised 500 units of free electricity and low-cost land plots and houses, besides Rs 25 lakh health insurance coverage for the poor.
