EPFO Big Update: UAN Activation Process Changed, Know Step-By-Step Guide

Aadhar for Identity proof will help beneficiaries in transparent and efficient entitlement delivery

An official statement by The Ministry of Labour and Employment mandated linking Aadhaar number with the UAN number for subscribers of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). Both can be linked via login on the member’s portal and entering the number.

The central government has directed ministries and departments to ensure subsidy and incentive payments for welfare schemes through the Aadhaar Payment Bridge, ensuring 100% Biometric Aadhaar authentication.

A release said that the ministry has asked the EPFO to work in campaign mode along with the employers for the generation of UAN of the subscribers. To ensure that better benefits  for the employers and employees from the Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) Scheme announced in Union Budget 2024-25, 

Aadhar as identity proof ensures simplification of the government delivery process as well as enhances transparency and efficiency for seamless delivery of entitlements. It also eases the burden by decreasing the paperwork and documents needed as identity proof.

The first stage needs to be completed by the employer, where they are required to complete the process of activation through Aadhar-based OTP of their employees joining by 30th November 2024, starting with the latest joined. The process for the old employees should follow after the completion of the latest employees.

Activation Process

The activation process can be completed using an Aadhaar-based OTP (One-Time Password). Employers should ensure that their employees activate the UAN by following the steps given below:

-The employee has to go to the EPFO Member’s Portal

-On the first page click on the “Activate UAN” link under the option of “Important Links”

-The employees are required to fill in important details like UAN, Aadhaar number, name, DOB, and Aadhaar-linked mobile number

-Employees should ensure their mobile number is Aadhaar-linked to access the full range of EPFO’s digital services

-Agree to Aadhaar OTP verification

-Click “Get Authorization PIN” to receive an OTP on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number

-Enter the OTP to complete the activation

-A password will be sent to your registered mobile number upon successful activation
