Sensex, Nifty Touch All-Time High: Know Major Gainers And Timeline Of Its Recent Records

Sensex touched an all-time high of 85,432.28, which was up 262.41 points, and NIFTY at 26,087.30, which was up 83.15 points. Read on to know the major gainers and when Sensex covered its major milestones

Indian benchmark indices continued their rally for the fifth consecutive day on Thursday as the Sensex stands at 85,432.28, showing a gain of 262.41 points, a 0.31 per cent increase. The NIFTY is also led by positive global market triggers and it is at 26,087.30, up by 83.15 points, after a 0.32 per cent increase as of 12.40 pm.

The SENSEX crossed the crucial 85,400 resistance for the first time. Meanwhile, the broader indices underperformed the benchmark indices by trading negative on Thursday. The NIFTY midcap 100 is trading 82 points lower at 13,177 points.

Major gainers

In today's market, the top gainers were Maruti Suzuki with a 4.61 per cent surge, Prism Johnson Limited, which saw an 11.76 per cent increase, Swan Energy Limited with a 6.89 per cent increase, Blue Star Limited which rose by 5.05 per cent, Easy Trip Planners Ltd at 5.89 per cent, and Elecon Eng. Co. Ltd which saw a 5.49 per cent increase.

With Tata Motors seeing a huge surge due to the Karnataka government announcing plans to boost the EV sector, coupled with a surge in Maruti Suzuki, Nifty Auto ended up being the biggest sectoral gainer registering a gain of 1.28 per cent. Nifty metal shows an uptick of 1.27 per cent, with the sector receiving tailwinds from China's recent announcements to boost the real estate sector.

Sensex Timeline

In 2013, the Sensex closed at 21,170. The following years from 2014 to 2019 were characterized by a bull market phase. By 2014 end, the Sensex surged to 28,278, driven by political stability after the general elections. However, in 2015, a slight correction occurred with the Sensex closing at 26,201.  2017 saw a strong bull run, pushing the Sensex to 33,247, marking a significant rise of 28.65 per cent. This continued momentum led to the Sensex reaching around 36,396 points by the end of 2018.

In March 2020, the pandemic led to a sharp decline in the Sensex, but by January 2021 Sensex had crossed 47,785. By September 2024, the Sensex reached an all-time high of approximately 85,479.51 points, almost doubling the distance it covered in just 3 years.
