Bringing cheers to Indian investors, the markets ended higher at the Muhurat trading session today ( Friday, November 1, 2024). This was the seventh straight Muhurat session in a row that the markets ended higher.
The Sensex closed at 79,724.12 after rising 335.06 points, a rise of 0.42 per cent. The Nifty ended at 22,304.35 after rising by 0.41 per cent or 99 points. Last year, during the Muhurat trading session, both the indices rose by about half per cent. At the same time, the Nifty Midcap and Nifty Smallcap indices rose by 0.68 per cent and 1.03 per cent respectively.
Most sectoral indices also saw a rise. Nifty Auto led the pack with a 1.24 per cent rise due to strong auto sales during the festive season. Nifty Realty, Nifty Oil & Gas, and Nifty PSU Bank saw 0.96 percent, 0.84 percent, and 0.79 percent growth, respectively.
Nifty Metal saw a rise of 0,68 per cent while Nifty Bank, Nifty Realty, Nifty Oil & Gas, and Nifty PSU Bank, which climbed 0.96 percent, 0.84 percent, and 0.79 percent, respectively. Nifty Metal rose by 0.68 per cent while Nifty Bank, Nifty Fin Services, Nifty Pharma, Nifty FMCG all ended over 0.25 percent higher. Nifty IT was the only index which saw a decline and ended 0.02 per cent lower.
On the Sensex, top gainers included M&M, Adani Ports, Tata Motors, NTPC, and Axis Bank, while only three stocks—Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, and ICICI Bank—closed in the red.
On Nifty, M&M, ONGC, Adani Ports, BEL, and Tata Motors led gains with over 1 per cent each, while the top losers were Dr Reddy's, HCL Tech, Britannia, Tech Mahindra, and Adani Enterprises.

This rise followed M&M’s record-breaking SUV sales in October 2024, with domestic sales reaching an all-time high of 54,504 vehicles—a 25 per cent increase year-on-year. Including exports, the company’s total sales volume hit a new peak of 96,648 units.
It is believed that worshiping Goddess Lakshmi during Diwali brings prosperity. Keeping with this tradition, the Indian share market remains open for a special Diwali trading session. This unique ritual is also referred to as Muhurat trading. It also marks the beginning of the Hindu calendar Samvat 2081.
