Repurpose Old Smartphones

Tushar Kanwar

It’s a common scenario in many homes, that an old smartphone that is sitting unused in a drawer because a glitzy new model has replaced it. Just because it’s a couple of years old and isn’t the latest anymore, an old smartphone is still a handy minicomputer stuffed with all manners of working sensors, and a few simple steps will transform it into a functional tool that can complement your everyday life

Home Security

Setting up a full home surveillance system is overkill for most, not to mention rather heavy on the pocket. Folks looking for a basic security camera setup can just install the SalientEye app (Android) or the Airbeam or Manything (iOS) apps to trigger video recording when motion is detected and even email you a snapshot of the intruder. The Manything app also ties in with other connected services so if you have a smart home system, it can set your lights to turn on automatically anytime motion is detected.
